The site has so far been well-received by visitors who have given feedback, but it’s been fairly temperamental with regard to its page loading speeds. There are a whole number of reasons for this, some of which I’m still investigating. Other things though, I’ve made a start of improving. Caching is enabled site-wide, both on the server and on the local browser. Javascript that is only necessary for certain pages to function is now only being loaded on those specific pages, rather than site-wide – at least with the more substantial chunks of javascript for now anyway. Javascript, CSS, and HTML have all been ‘minified’. Small external .js files have been brought inline to avoid additional HTTP requests. There will be a number of other things for me to look at, and if speed continues to present a problem, I might have to look at utilising a CDN.
